Poerty

Before writng my first novel I submitted one of my poems titled 'A New Love', to poetry.com and was invited to join the poetry symposium in Washington D.C. to receive my Editors Choice Award for 2005. This is where my true literary journey began. I have not put down my pen yet. Most of my inspiration for my poetry comes from family, personal experience and travel.

My other writings include inspirational verse, and children’s stories. I am proud to say that my poetry has been published in two coffee table books and because of this accomplishment I received the Editors Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry two years in a row. I was nominated for Poet of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and I have been inducted as An International Poet of Merit by the International Society of Poets. I have also received the distinguished honor of 2006 Poetry Ambassador and was awarded the Official 2006 Commemorative U.S. Poetry Ambassador Medal.

ISLAND BREEZES

As I lay here in my hammock
And watch the palm trees sway

The breezes are blowing gently
This is where I want to stay

As I look around this island
And discover the wonderful things

I look forward to tomorrow
And what each new day brings

The seas are calm and crystal clear
And the fish are colored bright

I love to sit on the quiet beach
And watch the sun set every night

I sit underneath the tiki hut
With a cold drink in my hand

I look for words to describe this place
This incredible foreign land

When I swim among the colorful fish
It’s just amazing what I see

The coral reefs are full of life
This is the perfect place for me

When it’s time to say good-bye
And I leave this all behind

There is nothing that can ever match
The peace and tranquility that I find

The first Moment

From the very first moment I met you
You took my breath away

I knew my life was going to change
And I looked forward to every day

I find myself only thinking of you
There is nothing I would rather do

My world was turned upside down
The day I fell in love with you

It was scary but exciting
This new life that I had found

The longer you were away from me
The more I wanted you around

You came to me just like a dream
My head was in the clouds

What had I done to deserve this fate?
Was this heaven that I had found?

You looked at me with big brown eyes
My heart melted on the spot

There were memories that haunted me
But how quickly I forgot

The years have passed and here we are
Still very much in love

I guess my dream did come true
When I wished on the stars above

To love again

Words can not begin to describe
The way you make me feel

I have never known someone like you
I can’t believe that you’re for real

I wasn’t sure which way to go
I was feeling terribly lost

I needed to rebuild my life
No matter what the cost

I had to leave my past behind
And make a brand new start

I had to try to love again
And open up my heart

I cannot think of another man
With whom I’d rather share my life

I had found the peace I was searching for
The day that I became your wife.
